How to get to Cloud 9

Cloud 9 is a 45-minute drive from Siargao Airport. It’s located about 3 to 4 kilometers (2 to 2.5 miles) from General Luna town proper. A motorbike or tricycle ride between the two areas takes around 10 to 15 minutes.

Tricycle fares range from PHP 50 to PHP 100, depending on your negotiation skills. Drivers may try to charge more if you’re traveling with two people instead of one, and on the return trip.

To enter the Cloud 9 area, tourists must pay an entrance fee of PHP 100 per person per day, regardless of whether they surf or not. Tourists are also required to register their name and nationality upon entry.

Best Time To Visit Could 9

If you plan to surf, the best time to visit Cloud 9 in Siargao is during the surfing season. This season typically runs from September to November. Expect consistent waves and favorable weather, ideal for experienced surfers and beginners.

If you don’t surf but want to enjoy Cloud 9 and its surroundings, visit during the dry season from March to May. This period offers sunny weather, perfect for relaxing on the beach and exploring the island’s attractions.

The rainy season in Siargao lasts from June to October. During this time, expect frequent rain showers and higher humidity, which can impact outdoor activities. If you don’t mind occasional rain, summer months can still be enjoyable. You can explore the island while being prepared for showers. Fewer tourists visit during this season, allowing for a quieter experience at attractions and beaches. We visited in July and enjoyed a beautiful day at Cloud 9, even without surfing.

The Cloud 9 Surfing Cup is an annual international competition held at Cloud 9, Siargao’s most famous surf spot. It’s one of the top surfing events in the Philippines, attracting professional surfers worldwide.

The event usually takes place in September or October, aligning with Siargao’s peak surfing season when the waves are at their best. Part of the World Surf League Qualifying Series, it offers surfers a chance to earn points toward world tour rankings.

The Cloud 9 Surfing Cup draws both surfers and spectators, boosting local tourism and putting Siargao on the global surf map. Even if you don’t surf, the event offers a vibrant atmosphere, cultural events, and plenty of island activities for visitors to enjoy.

Surf Lessons and Surfboard Rental

Multiple places around Cloud 9 and General Luna offer surfboard rentals. The rental costs PHP 150 per hour or around PHP 400 per day.

If you’re interested in surfing lessons, expect to pay PHP 500 to PHP 1,000 for a one-hour session. This includes the surfboard and instructor. There are plenty of surf schools in Cloud 9 offering lessons, and you’ll also find individuals around the beach offering surf lessons. While some of these individuals are experienced, for safety and quality, it’s recommended to book lessons through a surf school.

Surfing at Cloud 9 is only possible during mid or high tide, as the water is too shallow during low tide. This website provides tide charts and surf forecasts specifically for Cloud 9.

Most surf lessons take place at Jacking Horse, located to the left of Cloud 9. Jacking Horse is known for its consistent waves and is suitable for surfers of various skill levels.

Cloud 9 Beach offers breathtaking views, especially during sunrise and sunset. Visitors love taking pictures or relaxing as the sky changes colors. You can lounge on the sand, swim, or stroll leisurely along the shore.

You won’t need to bring food and drinks to Cloud 9 Beach. Numerous restaurants and bars are available along the shore. Don’t miss the chance to enjoy dinner with breathtaking sea views and stunning sunsets. Local eateries offer a variety of dishes, including local dishes, fresh seafood and international options. Beach bars provide refreshing drinks like beer, cocktails, smoothies, and local favorites. Many bars feature comfortable bean bag seating and lounge areas, creating a relaxed vibe.

Public toilets are conveniently located near the beach and boardwalk for visitor convenience. Outdoor showers are available for rinsing off saltwater and sand after swimming or surfing. These showers are located near the beach and dining spots, making it easy to freshen up before your meal.
